Review 2/4/2011
Where do I start? I signed a contract with Global for assistance with locating a house for rent. I signed the agreement on December 18, 2010, which states that if I found a place without their assistance, I would get $145 of the $195 I gave them. The agreement has some limitations, but it does not state that I am only entitled to a refund 90-days after I signed the agreement, or that I would be denied a refund if I did not obtain 24 lists of potential rental properties from them.

The problems began from the beginning, I was initially sent to three houses that the salesperson asserted met my criteria (i.e. 4 bedroom, house must be ready to move in immediately, $2200 per month rent max). They sent me to 4 houses, all of which were occupied at the time. At one of the locations, a person was leaving the house so I asked if they were taking appointments from potential renters to view the house. He responded that the house was not for rent and that other people had also been sent to them by Global!

I immediately knew that it was a scam, but I was kind of stuck. I called them after this for an explanation, but every time I called, I was either left on hold or told to leave a message with Customer Service and they would call me back. The never returned a single call. I was told by the sales person when I signed that they would select houses that matched my criteria and if I visited the house and I liked it, the salesperson would go with me to the house to work out the rental agreement. However, when I requested the listings, I was just faxed a 5-page list of houses for rent, most of which were out of my area. Moreover, the listings were not narrowed down to houses that met my criteria. I was looking through Craig’s List at the time for a rental, and I noticed that some of the houses on their list were either being offered for rent by individuals, not Global, or being offered by other agencies! I knew then that this was a definite scam, so I decided to search for a house for rent on my own without their assistance.

I finally found a house on December 26, 2010. On December 31, 2010, I went back to Global and requested a refund. I filled out the form, provided them with a copy of my signed and dated rental agreement and demanded my refund. The woman who took my form said that I should expect my refund via mail in 10-days. (The refund form specifically states, “All refunds will be processed through U.S. Postal Service within 10 days.”) Ten days came and went and I started calling to find out the status of my refund. Each time I called I was either left on hold or told that the people who handled refunds were not there and would get back to me. No one from Global ever returned my calls. Finally, on January 31, 2011, a full month after I filled out the refund request, I received a letter from Global denying my refund request! The letter stated that I was denied my refund because I did not obtain 24 listings for a period of 90-dyas after signing the contract. There is nothing in the agreement which states that this is a requirement before I could receive a refund. The letter also stated that I did not deliver them documentation regarding my obtaining a rental property without their assistance. I had provided them with a copy of the rental agreement (the girl who worked there made the copy in my presence and showed it to me), so I do not know how they could assert that I didn’t provide them with enough documentation. All they had to do was contact my landlord for verification. When I last spoke with my landlord, they told me that they were never called by Global.

I am extremely pissed at these thieves. All they did was take my money, provide me with no assistance, gave me a list of properties that either were not for rent or did not meet my criteria, and then they refuse me my refund even though I lived up to my obligations pursuant to the terms of the agreement. When I last visited Global to put in my request for a refund, another man was there requesting a refund. He told me that they denied his request because he had to wait until 90-days had passed from the date that he signed the agreement before he could request a refund. His agreement was identical to mine and there is nothing in the refund language stating that you needed to wit 90-days after singing the agreement before you’re entitled to a refund! They sent me to houses that weren’t for rent, only provided me with a single list of rental properties which had several properties they simply pulled up off of Craig’s List, and provided zero customer service. I definitely want my $145 refunded to me immediately.
