Make sure you do your due diligence Contractors can be a nightmare, this one is from Elmstreet. I spoke with a neighbor who had work done by Van Duzen Construction Inc. He claims the contractor stole building materials from his construction site. When differences in opionion and pricing on addtional work occured and the neighbor decided to hire a different contractor for the new work, he experienced harassment from Van Duzen.
As of February 2011 the contractor license is suspended and the company owner has moved to an undisclosed location to avoid mounting legal issues from numerous civil and criminal complaints. (Case numbers can be obtained at the Burbank and San Fernando Court Houses.)
The street address under which the company is registered (10521 Mary Bell Ave....) is fraudulent. The correct address for the property where the company resided for the last few years is 10198 LA CANADA WAY LOS ANGELES CA 91040 . The 10521 Mary Bell Ave is an address that belongs to an empty lot owned by somebody not affiliated with Van Duzen Construction Inc. This information can be verified through records at the LA County Assessor.
